LSt. Martin of Tours Parish Church: A Historic Treasure of Dumalag

With a history stretching back to the 1590s, the St. Martin of Tours Parish Church in Dumalag is one of Capiz's most significant and awe-inspiring religious landmarks. This grand church, built from distinctive yellow sandstone, stands as a powerful symbol of the town's deep-rooted faith and resilient history.

Founded by Augustinian missionaries, the current structure was completed in the 1870s and showcases a commanding presence. Its most striking feature is the magnificent five-story belfry, which houses five bells cast in 1881, each with its own unique tone. The church's thick walls and classic design tell the story of a community that has withstood the tests of time, including a major earthquake in 1948 that heavily damaged the structure before it was faithfully restored.

The interior of the church is shaped like a cross, creating a vast and solemn space that invites reverence and prayer. A visit to the St. Martin of Tours Parish Church is a step back in time, offering a chance to appreciate the incredible craftsmanship of a bygone era and to connect with a spiritual heritage that has been the cornerstone of the Dumalag community for centuries.
